Cryotherapy - Premenstrual Syndrome

Cryotherapy can prevent and treat Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) by reducing inflammation.

PMS is a common condition that affects around 80% of reproductive aged women. Symptoms typically arise in the week or two before the period. Symptoms are such as mood swings, bloating, back pain and breast tenderness.

Nearly half of women seek medical treatment for PMS, often relying on anti-inflammatory medication to keep symptoms at bay. Studies have found that there is a relationship between PMS and an increased level of C-reactive protein (CRP) which is a circulating inflammatory molecule.

The Journal of Women’s Health showed that women with elevated CRP were far more likely to experience PMS symptoms such as changes in mood, cramping, back pain, food cravings, weight gain, bloating and breast tenderness.

Researchers now believe that PMS symptoms are as a result of inflammation which increases between ovulation and menstruation. Mood changes and pain are the mostly highly correlated with inflammation. Declining progesterone and oestrogen may cause this spike in inflammation.

Several studies show that whole body cryotherapy is effective at naturally reducing CRP. This provides a more natural and holistic approach to PMS symptoms which has no negative side effects unlike most medications. Whole body cryotherapy is safe, effective and only takes three minutes to complete a treatment session. Not to mention the multiple other benefits that you could gain too, from better sleep to improved energy levels.

Please contact us to see how we can help prevent your PMS with a specially devised plan which will combat the inflammation most effectively. In the case where PMS symptoms do still occur, they will be of a reduced intensity and shorter duration.
